Default Do I need more transducer power

I am getting ready to upgrade with at least a 9" chart plotter/sounder with Chirp, sideview, etc. West marine told me that the supplied transom attached "puck" type transducer had plenty of power. I can upgrade but I don't know if I really need that additional power ( I think 1500 watts) . I normally saltwater fish in less than 300' of water. I realize that I must go slow to totally utilize the sideview options. But, it seems to me the more power, the better picture and I could drive faster and still paint the bottom. Any suggestions?

I’m no expert but the transducer gets its power from the unit so make sure you buy a fishfinder/chart plotter that puts out ample wattage. Also note that most transom mount ducers and factory rigs will work fine up to 300’ deep. Deeper you need a 1kw or larger and that’s probably going to be a thru Hull.

Sidescan max depth is about 100ft.

You were NOT specific as to what model MFD.

Garmin, Lorance, Sitex, Ratheon...any of the popular name brands. I already have 2 Garmin chart plotters/sounders. I am exploring what is the best for the BUCKS. My Garmin 740s will paint bottom great at 25 MPH using narrow beam. The wide beam part of it picks up too much interference the faster I go.

However, I would spend the money to be able to run 25 mph and track sideview with great details, if there was a chart plotter/sounder to do that.

I also want it RADAR compatible. I may be asking too much. However, it seems to me if my unit was powerful enough, I could accomplish everything.
