Default Do black drum tail in shallow water? Still learning...

So I have visited a shallow flat over near Blackwater Bay a couple of times when there is a little wind pushing on it, and I have seen lots of mullet - then noticed something tailing up shallow... assumed it was a redfish, but never got a real good look at the tail to see if there was a spot. 2 weeks ago I could not get that fish to hit ANYthing I threw - closest I got was a twitch bait a few feet away that he charged up to, but then stopped short.

Today, I found basically the same thing - this time got a better look at the tail. It was pretty big, but it looked more dark grayish and didn't have a spot. Never got him to look at anything - threw topwater, jig with matrix shad, chatterbait, and a free-line DOA shrimp I gently plopped in there with a baitcaster. Nothin. After looking at some photos, I think it was more likely a black drum tail. Do black drum do that like redfish?

I've caught a few of them by accident, and my impression is that black drum aren't as likely to hit artificials as redfish - I have only ever caught them on cut or live bait.

Help educate me here. Thanks folks.

Oh yeah, they tail like crazy. There are a few areas around there that have some big drum. Next time the conditions are the same bring some shrimp or a blue crab. Break the crab into 2 pieces. Toss it in front and hold on.

Well that helps explain why I couldn't get bit. Thanks for the tip, I'll remember that!
