Default destin charter boat assn meeting

Here is the report from the dcba meeting this past wed.

A Destin Charter Boat Association held a meeting on Wednesday, Dec. 6th
The meeting was attended by 29 members. During the meeting the
membership voted to fund the transportation of a group to the fishermen?s
protest being held in Washington D.C.
A discussion and was vote was also taken on the issue of catch shares/
IFQ for the charter boat sector. After much discussion on the pros and
cons of catch shares a vote was taken to reject catch shares/IFQ as a
possible management tool in the charter boat sector.
There was also much discussion on the pros and cons of sector separation
in the recreational fishing sector. A decision was made to leave sector
separation on the table as a possible management tool in the future.
While there were many members who also rejected sector separation, we
did not put it to a vote because there were members who wanted to keep
the option on the table.
There was much discussion on the SOS plan and the long range goals of
the plan in relation to catch shares IFQ. There was discussion of
dropping support for SOS plan altogether, but that was delayed until our
membership is able to have another meeting with a few more key players
as well as our local SOS spokesmen.
The membership agreed to require catch shares and IFQ be removed from
the SOS plan in order to retain membership support.
All of the membership agreed that they either: did not know that catch
shares/IFQ was part of the SOS plan originally and or did not agree with
that portion of SOS.
There was much discussion of the fate of the recreational sector
together and apart and the membership agreed to meet again as soon as
possible to continue the discussion and formulate informed decisions and
long range goals for our industry.

so what i gather from what i just read...there wasn't as much support for the SOS plan as was hoped for, and the destin charter boat association was scared if they voted on it then the plan would be axed altogether....so voting on it was delayed until more members who supported the plan were present and until a spokesman for SOS could show up and try to sway some votes towards the SOS plan. sounds like typical politics to me

can we get a list of the folks in the destin charter boat association who are against the SOS plan? I'd like to make a list of captains to support to go along with the list of captains to boycott

Or cutting the ice. I feel that more appropriate this morning.

If any of you have been sleeping and don't know who is behind this madness, its some left leaning environmental group that like all environmental group seeks control. I deeply respect some of the operators that think this is a good thing. But it is not a good thing. It will divide and sub-divide the groups of fishermen... Divide and conquor.

Excellent idea, It would be good to know which Charter Captains we can support without supporting the SOS plan unknowingly.

Very astute Josh, that is exactly what I read (between the lines). They will include the SOS, just not right now because the people with the money were not present at the meeting.

I also notice that there was no discusssion about the recreational anglers or their interests.
