Default Common courtesy

Wondering what everyone's opinions are in regard to fishing about 5 feet off of someone's pier and continuing to do so when the people who own the pier come out to enjoy water activities, swim, boat, ski, etc???? Is it common to keep fishing? Thanks.

I think you should just move on. The use of the dock will scare off the fish anyway.

I would probably smile, say hello, and move on as I usually am trolling anyway.

I was actually asking this question from the view of a pier owner. We've run into this problem numerous times as our pier seems to be a quite popular fishing spot among private fisherman as well as charters. I, myself, would never stay if the people came out, etc, and were doing activities. It just seems as though some people just won't leave no matter what. We were actually waterskiing and a charter boat insisted on staying the entire time. It just boggles my mind. Just wondered if I was missing something.

Fishing must have been good if they stayed through all that! By the way, can you share the coordinates for that pier?

I would think with you there swimming and stuff they wouldn't catch anything. I would move on.

Two totally different scenarios here. I would NEVER attempt to fish a dock if a homeowner has his family out there grilling, swimming off their dock or fishing off their dock. That being said if I am fishing your dock while you are out boating and skiing then I see no problem, now if you keep skiing back and forth near the dock, or going back to that dock for family members or supplies then obviously fishing will not be good so I would move on.
