Default Cobia Jig Suggestions.

Hi this is my first post. I'm in North Carolina but I have visited Pepsicola several times. I have always been involved with tying flies and tackle building. I have visited PFF many times, my friend in Pensacola had told me about it. I have tied many buck tails in my days and this year I tied a few cobia style jigs, we throw them up here too. I wanted to ask people here for any input, positve or negative, on this since Pensacola is the mecca of cobia fishing. I would just like to know what the guys of this forum would consider the ultimate cobia jig. Here is one that I have tied it is a 3 oz spro style head that is a mustad forged 8/0 hook.

Thanks,

Mike

You might try posting this again in the offshore and inshore forums. Looks good to me.

Have you fished with the jig yet?

Looks good. Have you used it? Doesn't matter what it looks like to me, only the fish.

People's opinion of what it looks like has nothing to do with it's ability to catch fish.... Go see what the fish think of it! Good luck!

Well I know bright colored buck tails catch cobia. especially when tipped with some squid or fish. I just was looking for some input on what colors people prefer down there. I'm in NC. I just started making these. I have used and seen many different colors but was trying to figure out what are the favorites. I haven't thrown any of these yet. I haven't had the opportunity to go cobia fishing this year now it is winding down.

100% artificial: 8-10" eel on the hook. I personally like a whole cigar minnow when using real bait.

8/0 I probably shoulld have put something in the picture to give some perspective of the size of the jig. I actually am very adamant about having proper hooks in my jigs. I build a lot of other tackle and part of the reason to make custom tackle is to be able to make better tackle. Often times mass produced lures or jigs are made with cheap hooks that don't do there job or rust after being in the water once. Just saying

Neon green seemed to be the popular color this year on the piers. Orange and pink are always staples as well.
