Default Buy a Reel at Wal Mart?

Would you buy a Spinfisher V from Wal Mart?

I've seen manufacturers (non fishing) cheapen up their product line that is sold in Wal Mart to protect their margins.

um.....no. look in the glass case and get a good one and get a good rod to put it on. you'll be much happier when it dosen't break on the first fish you hook.

My buddy owns a bait shop, and he said that the reels in the plastic containers as opposed to the boxes always seemed to give customers problems. He stopped carrying them. Wether they really are worse quality or not, he doesn't know, he just had more issues from customers so he aired on the side of caution.

I doubt the reels in the plastic containers are any different at walmart then any other store. As long as it's in the same container and same model at walmart compared to any other store, I highly doubt it'd be any different.

Probably the same reel but always try to support local tackle shops!

I didn't necessarily mean buying out of the glass case. I meant in general.

On they are not the same walmart makes the manufacture make the same reel with different parts so they can sell at a lower price point

UT Grad;

guess my opinion is different.
My answer is YES...

I have a 10 yr. old pair of Shakespeare saltwater rod/reel outfits bought at Wal-Mart for I think it was $45 or thereabouts each.

Used these for like I said over 10 yrs. on P'cola pier, Navarre pier, surf fishing, bull reds in the bays.

Still use them today when I go pier fishing. ALL my buddies have always kidded me about my wal-mart reels, BUT..I have caught mahi, lots of kings, sharks, reds, jacks, Spanish all from these Wal-Mart outfits.

My FAVORITE inshore outfit is a spinfisher rod/reel combo from Wal-Mart, casts like a bullet and I am tough on equip. and it has held up for 2 yrs. now and I have caught dozens of trout and reds on it.

Why pay more?

Yep...I'm not sure about Penn but many people are not aware that manufacturers "cheapen" up parts to sell their products at Wal Mart prices.
