I'm sure someone will come forward or the boater will get a guilty conscience and turn himself in.

Hopefully the boy makes it.

But, it said the boat fled the scene. So did he stop then leave or just keep driving? If it's at night and you hit something in the water you never really think to stop and think it might be a person.

Edit: said 7:30. Still daylight to see the dad and know some things wrong

About how deep is that area to how far out you can go? Was the kid 20 feet from shore or 200 feet?

It says the boy was swimming UNDERWATER, I would think the capt. couldn't be held accountable for something he couldn't see.

Well unless the dad waved them down or something and he took off. If he kept going and had no clue is a different story

This is right by my house. You can be 100yds off the beach and be in waist deep water. Sad to hear about. I saw them while I was coming home. They were waiting on the fire dept which was en route.
