Default Boat Launches

Hey guys, Berto here. I'm looking to branch out a little bit. I'm from Crestview, and do a lot of fishing on the Yellow River. I usually either put in on the Eglin reservation, or I'll put in at the River's Edge campground. I'm curious to know of any public boat ramps between Rivers Edge and the ramp at Highway 87. I know about Miller's Bluff, but I think that's a private launch. And there used to be a "pay to launch" ramp in Harold, but I think that's been shut down. Again, just looking to branch out and explore some new areas. Thanks for the advice, guys!

Scroll down to boat ramps in Florida Panhandle and check the river ramps.

That's a pretty cool website. I'll be adding it to my favorites. Thanks for the info!

Have you personally ever used any of those ramps? If so, have you ever had any issues? I just worry about the truck while I'm up river. I've had windows smashed out, radios stolen, and tires flattened just for being in someone else's "territory".

I used Browns several years ago, but no on the others. I just noticed on the website there are some missing ramps closer to Crestview. Guest Lake Ramp is one I have used several times. It's a good place with plenty of parking, covered tables. Have never had an issue there but I don't leave valuables in view.
Don't know the road number but take the exit on I10 at Holt, go south, I think it's called Log Lake Road and it's paved. Keep going south, pass small airport on left, keep going. Near the end of the paved road there is a private camp ground with a ramp. Never been there but I'm sure it's safe but there is probably a fee. Keep going on the dirt road which sort of turns west, it's another mile or two, you will see a boat ramp sign or two. The ramp is at the end of the road. The slough to the river is just across from the boat launch. The dirt road is well maintained. The ramp is used a lot. This is on Yellow River so watch the snags if the water is low.

I've used the one at the campground. It's called Rivers Edge, and yes there is a $5 boat launch fee. And I thought the one at the end of that dirt road you're talking about was called Guest Lake? Either way, I've been to both of them. I see your avatar says your from DeFunk. Any good places up in your neck of the woods? I've been to Holley/King, and Juniper. My fishing buddy and I have been wanting to branch out over to the DeFuniak side.

Default Lake Cassidy

Lake Cassidy is a possibility but it's hard to fish. Spring fed clear water. Good size lake of several hundred acres. It's northeast of DeFuniak in the edge of Holmes County

There are several good ramps on the west side of the Choctawhatchee River along hwy 81, Dead River, Tilley (bad ramp), Commanders, Morrison Springs, Cedar Log, etc. Depends on what you are looking for.

Also, several ramps on the river below hwy 20 starting with Cowford on down to Black Creek Lodge. These are along hwy 3280.

That is some awesome info. Thank you for the tips. I printed out some of those ramps for yellow river you showed me, and went range riding yesterday afternoon. They are all pretty decent ramps, and I intend on trying a few of them. Furthermore, I would absolutely LOVE to fish the Choctawhatchee river. But I've horror stories about it. Any advice/tips for a beginner on that river?

Not sure about any horror stories. Have fished the Choctawhatchee all my life except when I was away making a living. The upper reaches are more narrow and water is faster than about the hwy 20 and below area. More snags in low water to look for.You don't go bustin up the river at 50mph if you value your boat and motor.

In the Cowford area you have to be aware of jumping surgeon but I haven't heard of anyhone getting hurt from a jumper. Plenty of gators in some areas but have never been a problem. They just move out of the way;

There are plenty of bream, cats, bass, etc. but the catching has sure been spotty. The mullet guys seem to be doing well in known mullet holes.

From what all I have seen posted here I believe Blackwater might be a better fishing spot than the Choctawhatchee, but I have never been over there.
