Default on boat charger question

a friend asked me my thoughts on putting one on his boat ( 21 ft sea pro). i have ne idea about them but figures someone on here would. he wants, i think, one that hooks up to the alternator to charge up i think his trolling motor battery. does this sound right? what are good brands or ones to stay away from? sorry, i am clueless about this subject.

i dont think that it would give him the charge he is looking for...you would have to leave the big motor running all the time to charge the tm batteries...i know my batteries will last 3/4 of the day if i run it hard all day, and i have a 22' bay boat...what size tm does he have? a 12v or 24v

Never had an alternator on my boat so I can't speak on that (wouldn't the alternator charge the battery??).....but for mine I connected it straight to the posts (one charger hooked up to my 24v trolling motor and one charger hooked up to my Yamaha) and when I was home, i plugged it in the night before we went out....best thing I ever bought for my boat...never had any issues

There are some good 2 and 3 bank onboard chargers, guest makes a good one.. minn kota makes a good one, they just hook to the batterys and you plug in the cord to a a/c outlet, they keep the batterys charged and ready for the next outing,,, i can get you what you need, give me a call and we can discuss his equipment and requirements..
