Hi all,is it legal to ride a bicycle on the beach. Not on the road but right at the edge of the surf?I have an old mountainbike rigged up for my local fishing areas but wasn't sure if I needed to bring it..thanks

Good question, seeing as I have lived here all my life and NEVER seen it, I wouldn't think so but I could be wrong.

I saw a couple of guys doing it a few weeks ago. My wife and I thought it was pretty dumb using a couple of $2000+ mountainbikes to ride IN the surf...

If you have old junk bike that you don't care about... go for it. Maybe call city hall or police dept of city you plan to do it in.

I would think it would be hard to pedal. Pensacola beach sand is softer than other beaches I think. Like CCC, never seen it or tried it, so not sure.

you are going to need some really, really fat tires. Our sand is so powdery soft that it can be quite difficult. Impossible? No. But really difficult.

It's hard to walk down the beach with all the kid's and such right at the surf much less try to ride a bike. I would suggest it would be not worth the trouble. Besides like others said our sand is soooooffffttttt.

Not supposed to. There are "No bike" signs around Pensacola Beach, but I agree with the above, man it would be tough with this kind of sand.

I figured you weren't allowed to, as mentioned above people would be in your way, you would be in peoples way, and as protective as we are about our beaches I thought there might be a law against it.

A few years ago there was a regular poster whose name was something like "bikefisher" who had a bike designed for the sand and he was a very successful pompano fisherman. With any regular bike, even a mountain bike, it wouldn't be easy in our type of sand.
