Default Best handheld VHF?

I am looking to get a handheld VHF at a decent price. Anybody have a good one they would suggest or avoid? I am looking for one with a good battery life, waterproof that floats, and good range.

Best is very subjective at a decent price. Here's what I bought after hours of research for what I believe will fit my best needs. I have not tested it yet as I live just outside Dallas, but bought it for my trips to the GOM. It is a Uniden MHS135DSC. Here's the link. Hope it helps.

Standard horizon or Icom is where you want to be looking for a High End radio.

Question..... What do you want a Hand held VHF to do?

Answer.... Talk to someone.....Especially when your in trouble.

Therefore it is considered a piece of SAFETY Equipment.

Would you bet your life on "Cheap"?
