Default Abu Garcia Revo SX Spinning Reel Problem

Folks, i have one of these reels and has been flawless for a year. my dad was going up to arkansas to fish for walleye and he needed a good rod and reel set up. he put brand new 10 lb lest line and swapped rods to an allstar 7 fter medium action. its a great set up. the issue is now for some reason after every so many cast the line will get a knot in the line ( bird nest type ). kind of like the line was put on wrong. when you sort out the birdnest, it will cast again 50 or so throws and do it again. it does with with everything from a beetle spin to a popping cork. it was working fine prior to changing the line or the rod. Im assumming the line maybe but i just dont see it. could it be anything else with the reel?

Spool might be a little too full. That can cause wind knots. Especially with varying sizes/weights that you’re throwing.

Every so often I'd cast far out and just reel in steady.

I thought there was too much line on the spool. Needless to say after two or three of those wind knots I had to cut out showed me it wasn’t the spool being full. Even making the long cast on it every so often does it not fix it.
I was wondering if the little spool the line rolls on could not be working and causing this when reeling.

Some reels just dont like braid. Like already suggested you have to throw it out and tighten the line every few casts.

If its a spinning reel its most likely the new line has lots of memory

Couple of things with stiff line you have to watch.

1. Always close the bail by hand. It avoids line twist that will build up after many cast and cause the line to jump off the spool during a cast.

2. I never throw a lure that spins on the retrieve like any kind of in line spinner. It will build up twist and the line will jump off the reel during a cast.

3. If the line was spooled with line like Trilene XT or even Big Game it has to be spooled correctly. Pull all the line off the reel across the yard and wind it back on the reel, maybe twice. I let my line out and drag it behind the boat and reel in back on the spool.

Stiff line on a spinning reel is a killer.

Pull all the line out in warm weather, sun works great.let it lay for a hour or so and wind it up holding the line with a rag and light pressure.

Also check to make sure the line roller is actually rolling, if not it could be putting twists in the line during retrieve.
