Tyler: Went over to Yellow River south of Holt last night with a friend from Pensacola. We had plenty of live bait but didn't get a flathead bite. We fishing some of the same spots Glenn fished when we went out with him a few weeks ago. Moon was little over half full and it was bright. Didn't get a bite but we plan to do it again before it get's cold.

Next week I want to go up to Cerrogordo or Baker.Have never fish this part of the river. Which area do you think would be the better of the two? Plan to fish for bream with fly and crickets. May take a bass rod just is case.

Will wait 2 or 3 weeks before I go back to Pate.

Tyler, I need to pick your brain on keeping bream alive. Next week a buddy and I are planning on a flathead attempt over on the Yellow River near Holt.
I don't have a good setup for keeping bait alive for very long, but from your experience I was wondering about how long they would last in a large ice chest with a double aerator.
I sort of figure on maybe a dozen or two max.

Had a really great time with Glenn last night although I never got the knack down on how to snag a flathead. Missed 4 or 5 good bites, hung a good one that got off. Same for my partner but he landed a 6 or 7 pounder.
We did learn a lot on what to do and what not to do so that's a start for future practice.
Man, that's some boat Glenn has. That thing is a battle ship. It should last a lifetime.
We started about 7:15 last night and quit about 1:30 this morning. Beautiful night with no mosquitoes and sky full of stars. The partial moon that came up was almost blinding if you had to look in that direction. I was in the bed about 3:30 and the filets were in the fridge.

Thanks for the tournament update. Have been tied up with visiting family and will be until middle of next week. I did get out one day earlier in the week but did not have a good day. Spun the trolling motor prop off into Davie Jones Locker. Only 5 in the box when that happened. Buddy got about 20 nice bream. We had a fish fry cookout at the Black Creek landing. Will be middle of next week before I can get back on the river.

Sorry I missed the tournament at Caryville today. How did it go?

Forgot I had promised a friend to help him grind stumps today. Didn't put the tournament in my date book as I should have so double booked.

    Smoked Mullet:
    24oz smoked mullet
2 tbs Old Bay (I use Slap ya Mama)
1 3oz pk cream cheese, softened
    1/3 cup mayo
    1/3 cup sour cream
    1/3 cup finely chopped onions
1 tbs Creole mustard (I skip this)
    1 tbs Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp paprika (I skip this if I don't have any)
1/4 tsp crushed red pepper (optional)

This is a lot of dip so I make a smaller portion and just adjust the ingredients more or less to what I think I will like. I like the heat and sometimes add a few drops of Tabasco or more Slap Ya Mama which is hotter than Old Bay.

There hasn't been any Talquin reports lately so looking forward to your report tomorrow. Looks like it's going to be a beautiful day to be on the water

Tyle....what kind of hook or jig hookup do you use with a small crappie stinger bait.

For the lack of anything better to do a buddy and I are going to Alaqua tomorrow to check on the mullet. Getting a later start so I'm not looking for much action. Water will be high and dirty.

Visited Humminbird at Eufaula yesterday. Went with a friend from Crestivew who has his Humminbird 1157 repaired. They do repairs on the spot if you take a unit to the customer service building.
Had some good fishing conversations with a couple of their guys and a guy at the welcome center. All fish the lake. Crappie have been hot up there for weeks. One guy went after work day before yesterday and never left the dock where he keeps his boat. He caught a limit fishing from the dock. At the state marine north of town we stopped at the store. Just an hour before we got there a lady came in with a 16 inch crappie her grandson had caught off the shoreline about 100 yards from the store. Amazing. Saw a good number of boats in the coves near the highway. Several were fishing crappie.
