Thanks PBTH for replying to my post, I thought it was some kind of snapper. How big do they have to be and are they good eating. Never have tried them.
I was targeting specific spots. I do my best to paddle in position as long as I can with my bait just over the structure. I use braid and a rod that can handle 10lbs of drag. My rig consists of a standard carolina rig with 8oz egg and 6ft of 60lb mono with a 7/0 circle. The toughest part of all of it is maintaining position.
I was out yesterday with Catchinem on my first snapper attempt. I think I might have seen you in the distance. We were fishing the pyramids and someone else was fishing off to the east... Our trip did not go so well, so thanks for showing me we were doing something wrong! If you don't mind me asking, were you drifting an area or were you trying to target specific stuff? Also, what kind of rig/how heavy were you using?
Congrats on a great catch on a rough see in a kayak you actually have to paddle (I was out there in a OK Scrambler myself).
