You have been helpful to me in the past as well as many others. I mentioned to you earlier that my wife and I were retiring and moving to our home that borders the Bon Secour wildlife area. My colleagues just gave me $250 to buy a rod and reel. (I was so thankful that it was not a plaque!). We are down this week and I wondered if you could sell me a worthy surf rig in that price range. I mostly drown bait and have a mixed bag of mostly Penn spincasters and one Diawa baitcaster. Not sure what you would recommend for that money.

Having read your posts, I recently bought a bag of Tsunami Swim Shads. I really know little about lure fishing. Could you recommend say $50 worth of lures that would get me started on working the holes up and down the 3 miles of the Bon Secour? Also what lures you use to target what fish? Sorry to be so long that it required two posts. I hope to met you and become a good customer in the future. Mike Brown

    Dear Chris,

We have never met, but I do enjoy reading your informative posts on this forum. I would like to solicit some help from you. My wife and I have owned a home in the Martinique on the Gulf neighborhood since 2009. I fish every time we go. My technique is limited to sand spikes, pompano rigs, looking for cuts in the second bar and waiting with fresh dead shrimp and sand fleas for whatever comes along. Our home is right next to the Bon Secour Wildlife Refuge so that is where I go to set up. With this limited technique, I have caught a lot of different fish from 50 lb Blacktips and Black Drum to slot and a few above slot redfish to days when I cannot catch anything but catfish. My wife and I are retiring after this semester (we both are professors at Mississippi State U.) and are moving permanently to our beach home where I can fish to my heart's content. Here is where I need your help.

Chris, I was so glad to finally meet you face-to-face.
I really liked the forum with you and Dusty (good combination) and learned even more about the fishing I enjoy so much.
I was intrigued by your statements about the Perdido Pass "Park".
This piece by WKRG calls more attention to the issue and I'd like to do whatever I can to generate more interest (and pressure) to get as project in the works ASAP!

I'm with you man, good setup, great kayak reel, you are asking a good price for that setup, I just don't want to swing $100 on the reel now. I appreciate the fast reply man.

Your the one person I thought to ask in helping me make a decision. I found a place to stay on Little Lagoon that has a ramp and dock. The dates I wanted ( last two weeks in June) are booked. I wanted to catch some King Mackeral fishing and hopefully red snapper season will be open then. Since that door seems closed, I thought I might try the second and third week in October.
My question is will the Kings still be in ? I have a small boat and am banking on being able to get out of west pass. I would only go about 3 miles out on a good day.
As far as I know the red snapper season dates have not been announced. I might try to find another place to stay but this place is neat since it has its own boat ramp so I can trailer to Orange Beach if necessary
Thanks and Ill be sure to visit Sam's and say Hello

Milty, Toriums are excellent reels and should do fine for light trolling duties, bottom fishing and jigging. Spool them with 65lb braid and you should be good to go. What blanks are you using and what are their ratings?

Hey Chris. I'm looking for a couple of reels for the boat rods I'm building, was thinking about Torium 20's, but don't know if I can fit in my budget. You got any suggestions/ideas? Thanks.
