Milty, Toriums are excellent reels and should do fine for light trolling duties, bottom fishing and jigging. Spool them with 65lb braid and you should be good to go. What blanks are you using and what are their ratings?

Hey Chris. I'm looking for a couple of reels for the boat rods I'm building, was thinking about Torium 20's, but don't know if I can fit in my budget. You got any suggestions/ideas? Thanks.

It was good to meet you too. Yes, I catch Flounder to decent size in the surf with my biggest beach Flounder being just over 6lbs. I don't catch as many Southern Flounder on the beach but I do get them. I caught about a dozen Southern Flounder this year in the surf out of the god knows how many Gulfies.

Hi Chris, Good meeting you and talking fishing today. I appreciate all the tips. I meant to ask you, do you commonly catch decent or good size flounder in the surf? I have mostly caught these dinks, about 8-11". Mostly Gulf Flounder I guess, which don't get as big. Do you get any of the Southern species which run larger? If not are there any places to get them from shore?

I caught (kept) 2 flounder on Tuesday morning, and threw back 6-7 "dinks" at Perdido pass. I am figuring these things out. I still have lots to learn about surf fishing and want to learn best seasons/conditions for numerous species etc. Is your store Sam's on Canal Rd? Are you usually there?

    Hey man,
Read your posts about the flounder(flattie) fishing last couple of days. Is OB Orange Beach?
I live in Gulf Shores and would like to learn more how to catch these things. Any chance you could meet me for some early AM flounder chasing soon? Appreciate it!

Hello. I am through your shop frequently and need some advice for a good heavy duty bottom drop set up. I come to realize you are the "go to man" for all reel and rod questions. I am looking at the Talica 25 II and the Penn Torque 25 along with a reasonably priced/sturdy rod (preferably bent butt/stand-up). What would you recommend for a reel (want to stay in the $650 range or lower) and what would you say for a rod? I am interested in any Avet, Accurate, Daiwa etc. Just looking for something light with a strong drag system and won't break down on me from vibration or faulty drag system. thanks man. Enjoy reading your posts and getting your expertise.

Corey S. says your are the man to ask about surf fishing. So I have a question for you. Past two times fishing have been at night using live shrimp and have only caught catfish. What am I wanting to catch you ask? Pretty much anything but catfish.
