I'm not sure the Musky lures would be worth the damage you'd do to them in the salt water. It's very harsh. As far as trolling lures I run two kinds. One is always a Yozuri Deep Diver. Sardine pattern or the silver/blue are good choices. I catch kings, spanish, and bonita regularly on these lures and it covers me in the 15-25 ft range. You might also get lucky with a sailfish or mahi mahi on them but the first 3 I mentioned are the most common. I then run another lure with some sort of Duster rig which is very common. Boone makes the ones I use I believe. You'll want to use 40 lb wire for both. On the duster rig, I rig it with about a 6/0 or 7/0 'J' hook followed by a size 1 Owner or Gamakatsu treble hook on a stinger about 4 inches behind the J hook. Add a cigar minnow, sardine, hardtail, or threadfin herring and you'll be in business. We try to catch live bait using sabiki rigs just past the 2nd sandbar out to about 25 feet when its available.
So my brother and I are coming in June third week in. Now colors and what to use for lures. Do you know if my Muskie fresh water lures would be fine to use? And what do I look for in colors and depths for buying lures forbthis time of year? Once I figure out how to put pictures on pm I will show you what I was thinking. I banjo lures if you think that would help me.
Thanks for the invite but right now i am in Columbus Ohio. I have been on this web sight to study up and to talk to people for my week long fishing trip in June. You like to set up and go fishing on a Tuesday at the end of June that would be perfect. Lol I do like to meet up with people when i come down if you are interested. I feel like being a northern fresh water fisherman i am going to need all the help i can get.
