Big shinners are available on special order only. The ones Moore Bait carries area 'medium' size which means 3 to 4 inches. She said the big ones cost 1.00 to 1.25 each. I have used he medium size and the worked but not great. Used them 3 times and the best we did was 4 cats, 2 2 pounders and 2 6 to 8 pounds. The other trips I think we got just a couple.
Stopped in Bonifay at Moore Bait. They have shinners but they are only 3 to 4 inches and are classified as medium size by the dealer She said the big ones can be on special on special order and she sells them for $1.25. I didn't think to ask but since they got stuck a few times on special orders and the persons never came back they might want a prepayment to order
A buddy and I used the medium size a few times with with 25 set hooks. Our largest take was 3 to 4 cats up to about 8 pounds. He wanted larger shiners but they were not available.
Hi Billy, I posted a while back about the dove fields in YRWMA. I was out there yesterday at both fields and they were amazing and very well maintained. Lots of deer tracks so I'm interested in getting out there for deer, too. Being new to the area, I have not idea of butchers, etc. What is your processing procedure? In S. FL we'd have to dress and quarter animals before taking to the butcher. Is that the case here or can you bring just the gutted carcass and they do the rest? Any info would be appreciated. I'll be glad to send you those dove field maps, too if you'd like. They are too big to upload to the forum so would need to email.
