A month ago I was fishing in my kayak maybe 50 yards of the east end of that sand island that is located just outside of Sherman Cove at NAS Pensacola.
I saw many fish in the 12-18 inch range. The water was maybe 3-4 feet deep. I anchored the yak and started using the only thing I had, some artificial lures including DOA shrimp. The fish didn't seem to mind the lures in their presence, and would occasionally follow them in, but I never got a bit. I wish I'd had some shrimp or minnows to see if that worked.
Any idea what sorts of fish I might expect in the conditions above? It was hard to tell for sure, but they looked like they might be red fish. I was surprised to see fish in that area anyway; there is no cover or grass there, just plain sand.

Are you talking about that little sand flat just east of the island? I've kayaked over it many times and haven't seen anything. Its cool there was something swimming around there. I haven't had any luck over there, but then again, I'm still a newbie.

Its easy to sit there and say you'd like to have more money. And I guess that's what I like about it. It's easy. Just sitting there, rocking back and forth, wanting that money.

Yep, that's the place. I usually don't see fish over there either, but they were all over the place that day. I'll be back in Pensacola in September and plan to visit that spot again, but with more variety in the bait I have!
