Put in at the pier 6:35 AM - very light wind from the west and outgoing tide right after high tide. Surf was surpirsingly active and lots of slimy june grass - very thick in areas. Picked up a couple of hard tails and a big cigar minnow at the break in the pier. Rigged up one of the hard tails on a king rig with Penn reel and the cigar on back of a trolling gotcha on my Mitchel. Paddled them out past the end of the pier and had to de-grass them. Grass was out to a couple hundred feet past the end of the pier.
Set the cleaned up lines back out and start trolling south. Right at the color change about 150 yards past the end of the pier I notice something off to the southwest. Oh no - flipper again. About 3 seconds later I see what I thought were kings streaking past me heading back toward my baits. Cool - I should be hooked up in seconds I thought. 5 seconds later I'm thinking - wonder why they didn't take at least one of those baits. Then I look off my starboard bow and the water is lit up green, yellow and black - huge school of Jack Crevalle. Uh oh - I'm thinking last time I doubled up on those I pulled the hook on the second one, tumped over, lost a rod and half my pride. Sure enough - 2 seconds later both rods go off full speed. I tighten the drag a little on the Penn to keep him in a little grab the Mitchell and start working it - thinking I can get one in quick and tend to the other. Before long I've got both jacks heading east one on off the Bow from my Mitchel and one of the stern on my Penn. Good - same direction and separated....well except they are dragging the yak sideways. No problem I'll face backwards and fight mine off the stern. Works good for about a minute and then the lines are crossed - something's got to give and does - the abrasion breaks the line on the Penn. Well at least I can turn around and fight him. He ended up being pretty stubborn dragging me further south another 1/2 mile before I finally wore him out and got him to the yak. Well - he looked like he rivaled the previous biggest jack from my yak so I put him in the yak - cut him up for strip bait. Weighed him in at 23 Lbs - I think that's my biggest jack. Didn't tump over but the surf was a little sporty coming in.

Must have been a good fight. Half mile south is a trek. I was one of the scuba divers there talking at your truck. There was alot of bait both hard tails and cigars. The slime was pretty thick though. Good job getting him in. Smoke him up man, it'll be great!
