I was thinking about buying a 1200 watt power inverter to run 4 300 watt halogens. Does anyone know how many hours of runtime I would get running on a 12 volt deep cycle with 875 CCA and a 1200-1800 watt inverter?
Favorite fishing spot: sebastian inlet.
Biggest catch: 44# wahoo

Lets look at Ohm's law...
300 watts at 120 volts = 2.5 amps or current needed....
To bump up 12 volts to 120 volts would requires 10 times the amp draw so it would take 25 amps of 12 volts to run one 300 watt light.
Multiply that by 4 and you have got 100 amps needed to run 4-300 watt 120v lights.
I don't think one battery will last you long with a 100 amp draw on it...
Just my opinion....

I'm trying to avoid buying a generator so is there any type of charging mechanism that can keep a 12 volt charged. I have a 14 ft alum. with 5 horse briggs. I have got decent lighting right now but I want a litle more light.
Favorite fishing spot: sebastian inlet.

Solar - But if you had sunlight you would not need lamps.....
Wind - But if you had enough wind to power them, it would be to choppy to fish....
If you don't want to buy a generator, look at a 12vdc lighting setup. Get you some starfires on a pvc rig.

We tried 4 deep cycle batteries, 8 300 watt halogens, 2-1200 inverters and had light for less than 45 minutes. It sucked!

If you are trying to avoid buying a generator, then just stick with a DC system.

Just my opinion....and thats assuming the invertor is 100% effiecient
