Hubby and I launched out of Sander's Beach around 6:15pm and ran to the east side of the pass and anchored.  I cast the new penny GULP a few times and didn't get a nibble.  Finally, I cast and decided it could just sit there.  We were eating our gourmet dinner.....ya know the drill....ham, mayo & bread!!  The "CLICKER" isn't working on my med. sized PENN spinning reel and it caught my eye as it was almost doubled up! (( Recently, hubby found a shorter rod on clx at Wallyworld:  about a 6.5 med. action surf rod.  I couldn't cast the long rod from the confines of the boat.))

I thought I had a sailcat and tightened the drag not caring if it broke off or not.   Hubby turned on the deck lights and, when that big REDFISH saw the lights, the fight was ON!!!  He/she went under the boat, around the motor, back under the boat and anywhere other than where I was standing!  Now, we have NO net or NO gaff!  I'm LOUDLY telling hubby that he must get into the water and NOT lose this fish!!!  ((((((((((I'm dying here at this point!!!!!))))))))))

He gets down on the swimming platform and gets his gloved hands on this beauty!  I'm still holding my breath 'cause he/she isn't ON the boat  yet!   The next question is THE SIZE!!   Ok......we know it's gotta be SLOT......18-27".   HE measured/I measured.....WE MEASURED............27" EXACTLY!!!

This fish was SO SO SO  good for dinner tonite.   If ya want my recipe, just PM me and I'll give it to you.

Mainly, I want to thank all of you for your posts and for helping all of us catch fish.   PFF is the greatest "TOOL" for anyone that is interested enuff to catch fish.

We are all so lucky to live in "God's country."  I know several of ya'll..........I'm related to at least 2 of ya'll......and THANK YOU for all the hints, help.........and suggestions!!!

You got that right Mark. Its fun to sit down and read about somebody's fishing trip, what happened, what they caught, how they did it, etc.  Thanks for the awsome post LWW cant wait to see some pics.

Nice post!

Why would you say it was so so? I have never eaten a redfish. Every one I have caught was huge and never in the slot. For a long time I was convinced that redfish were born at 28 inches long. :-)

Way to go on making a slot red your first catch. It is always interesting how you can sit there waiting on a fish, put the rod down to get something to eat and in mid bite it is fish on! After Ike blows thru and the seas ease off the full moon is coming on the fifteenth. You need to get out on a full moon night when it is slick.

Thank you all so very much.  I'm glad you enjoyed the "story!"  Like many of you, since joining the PFF, I've always loved the stories behind the fishing.  Pictures are always great but I like hearing the details!

I shouldn't have said SOSOSO good.  I should have said WONDERFULLY Delicious or something like that!  The caps and multiplied words are something I've gotten in a bad habit of writing emails and such adding STRENGTH to a statement....sorry about that!!!!!  lol.

Hubby filleted the fish with an electric knife and I brought it in, cleaned it and cut it in large chunks and iced it in a bowl until dinnertime.   I layed it out in one layer in a baking dish lined with heavy foil which I had dabbed a little real butter.  Then, I sprinkled it lightly with salt, garlic salt/parsley and the juice of 1/2 lemon.  I, generiously, covered the fish with some more real butter and put it beneath the broiler.  I know that skinned Redfish dries out very quickly so I kept a very close eye on it.  When everything looked opaque and the butter was starting to turn a little golden, I turned over the thickest pieces, returned it to the broiler and waited for those to finish.  We had baked potatoes and garlic bread on the side.  The fish was flaky and juicy with just a slight hint of garlic and lemon....nothing overpowering!  It was great.

Once again, ty to all....LWW

BTW:  pic's posted...ty for the help.

Great post and a good read. Thanks for posting. I tried to explain why Redfish is so sought after to my brother who is in PA, After a few minutes I just said. Best inshore fighting fish and damn good table fair.

Congrats on the 27" for your first.

WOW...great post. Ain't nuthin better than a fishin' report where you feel as if you are there with the person as you read. Definitly a fish to be proud of whether it is a first or a 100th for your boat. It being the first does give you a good feeling tho....hopefully a sign of karma and  of the good things that will happen aboard your boat in the future.

congrats again and lookin forward to more pics in the future

Ya'll can't know how wonderful you've made me feel with your replies!  As I said earlier, pics say a lot but telling the actual stories behind the catch is the key to wonderful "FISH" stories!   We're very blessed that we were able to get our retirement/dream boat 10 years early but we're MOST grateful to live in a wonderful place like P'cola and know.......well, KINDA know.......so many great people!

MK....I remember you well and wonder how its been 32 years since we graduated EHS~!!!!  I was away a long time with hubby in the USArmy but he got caught in the drawdown after Desert Storm and we came home and he got in the Alabama National Guard.  He's in his 28th year, up for E-8, and we have 8 more years til we can tell the wholeeeeeeeeeeeee world to KOA!!!!  You've done wonderfully and I LOVE YOUR HOUSE!!!  I know right where it is, too.  ULTRALITE......great to hear from you!!!

Nightwolf is parked until the beginning of OCT since hubby's heading to ANOC Friday morning but we've got a WHOLE lot of fishing left to do before the year's end and I'll be right here on the forum waiting for each and every report that comes end!!!

Many sweet wishes to ALL of you .............

BINGO - I love it when folks tells what happens. When you can read the excitement in thier post is JUST AWESOME. Theres a few I love reading that post when they post thier reports. It makes you feel like you are there.

I love to hear about the ragging and mistakes that goes on. Don't get me wrong, I love to see the pixs of the big boys caught also but reading about the trip is just more fun.

Great post and look foward to more.

Dylan.......sorry I didn't answer you in my 1st reply.

No, we have no problems launching.  But, I back hubby into the water and he drives the boat off the trailor with the motor all the way up.  I, then, go park the truck and trailor, lock it up and he pics me up at the dock.  Now, we've had some BAD problems picking up but we've about got that solved now.  I back down into the water, stick my hand out the window and count 1....................2......................3....  on 3, he hits the 190 merccruiser when I hit the gas and the boat pushes the truck up on the trailor and the truck/trailor/boat up on shore! .  Its a REAL piece of cake!!!  Our new boat has an awesome amount of power and we just let that MercCruiser do the pushing!!  He's EXTREMELY careful about the  trim and the prop.  But, we've learned a WHOLE lot between the 1st launch and this past one.....which is our  4th.

Sander's beach is about a mile from our house.  We come out of the backside of Lakewood, turn right at the Pace Blved light, turn left onto Cypress and we're there.  I wish the City of P'cola would have scooped some more sand out after Gustov but I reckon I should be glad the launch is still there.  They don't do shit to accomodate the locals around here.  Oh well ...............

Take care, P'cola and remember that we appreciate all of you VERY much every single day!!!
