i have been considering buying a new car, but money is kind of tight and i would really like to avoid having a car payment.
I have a 2001 ford ranger 2.3L in need of some repair. the truck is downright dangerous to drive at this point with a couple of problems that i cannot fix or have been unable to repair. the work needed done is:
1. suspension needs to be fixed. one of the lower ball joints appears to be broken but i am sure more work than that needs to be done
2. brakes intermittently give out, immediately followed by ABS light coming on. pumping them once or twice usually fixes this, but i want it gone for good.
3. there is a coolant leak on the rear of the engine. i cant find where it is coming from, but it appears to be a slow leak.
If anyone is looking for some side work and can save me some money in the process, please PM me. i would prefer to get this truck up and running as opposed to buying a new car. cash can be worked out, but i could also *GULP* possibly trade my hobie revolution kayak (worth about $1800 as it is) in exchange for the work if the work is worth the cost of the kayak.
I will have to rent a car while the work is being done so timeliness on repairs is also an issue.

I will have to rent a car while the work is being done so timeliness on repairs is also an issue. That is quite a bit of work to get done in short order. Your best bet is to get a professional to do it. Someone on the side could probably get it done. But how much extra time will it take that person vs. someone that does it for a living. How much is that extra time going to cost you in rental car fees? Just something to think about.
