Ya, well I just flooded the kitchen with the 2 kids in it and myself... I ran a new Ice maker line eariler because the old copper one was'nt any good.. well found out it had both 3/8 line and I had 1-3/8 and 1 1/4 line to hook up.. went to Home depot to buy another new muti-valve and found a coupler that would work.. So I put the valve back on and tighten it up.. went outside to trun the water back on and it was fine.. Saw alittle leak tightened it up and BAM it broke off flooding the kitchen.... I yelled at the 4yr to grab his little 11month old sister and get out of the kitchen...

So ques. is.. Now what Can I do?? I've got a bare copper pipe out of the wall, and the little ring fitting with the coupler does'nt want to stay on..

you can go to lowes in the  morning and get you a valve that is made with a compression fitting on one side that slids over the copper line and you tighten up the nut and it wont leak and get you a water line to go on the otherside of the valve

Got any pictures? I guess that you are saying that the threaded portion of the shutoff valve broke off. In that case you'll have to put on a new valve it it threaded or soldered?

No nothing broke... That Compresson fitting came off.... The little thing that looks like a ring.. Which basically you put the nut on the pipe, then slide the fitting on and it's not suppose to come off... well this one does....

Just pulled another fitting out of a new box and same thing... goes over the copper pipe and then you pull on it and it comes right off.. Almost like the pipe is messed up...

how much estra do you have sticking out of the wall? If you have enough to cut off a inch or so do it and try it again.

Are you tightening it enough? You have to put some pretty good pressure on that ring in order for it to compress onto the pipe.

chris.. I think that was my problem.. I just stuck the new one on there and tighten down real good on it.. I'm about to go turn on the water and see what happens...

The ring you are referring to is brass and called a farrel. The pipe must be all the way into the valve with the farrel on it. The yes tighten the compression fitting with two wrenches. Until it does not turn at all. This squeezes the farrel (soft Brass) smaller, and it captures the copper tubing.

Once installed properly, you will never get the farrel and the copper apart again.

You can also buy a tool that will flare the end of the copper and put on a flare fitting. (Not in that order) It is pretty simple to use. It is a clamp with a pointed piece and the two are threaded. Put the clamp on the pipe and then screw the pointed piece into the pipe causing it to flare.

Good luck!!

ahahah... Ron, it was an easy fix... Until the coupler came off... O well it's good now.. The next chain of events is the guest/kids bath... Fixing the toilet... I'm on my  way again to lowes to get a toilet line to hook it up... Lets see what happens in there.. I'll report back later... If no report, well then you know something bad happened...

edit, BTW I do have a pool and it's big enuff...  29000 gallons...   I actually had to go outside and drain it abit this  moroning..

I let  my pool stay over filled from rain and let it evaporate back down to proper level. If I pump it down to normal level, I lose chemicals.

Good luck with the commode, get the braided steel flexible line. It is easiest to use and does not rupture.
