I have been driving between Mobile and Pensacola a couple of times a week for Years and have Never seen a ala.gator untill recently and Now I am seeing them in groups every time I come out of the I-10 tunnel eastbound in the body of water on the south side of the bridge near the boat ramp and also swimming in the canal behind the old Hotel. It's kinda cool seeing them swimming around down there. Wish I could stop on the bridge and check them out.

Have I simply overlooked them for ever or have there always been a bunch of gators swimming around there???

WOW!!!!! WHAT A RIDE.

Lots and lots of gators over there. I learned a pretty valuable lesson about Mobile Bay/Delta. When you step off on an island to relieve yourself and one hisses, you do not lose bowel control as some might think. Your whole body tenses up and you simply do not have to go anymore.

I routinely see gators while west bound on I-10 over Mobile Bay. Only place I've seen more was around the mouth of the Escambia River. I've also seen them at Cypress Cove Marina in Venice, LA.

if you really want to see them, get off i-10 and take the causeway that runs beside it. you will see more than you could imagine. some of them are only 20 to 30 feet away from bank fisherman.

Ha ha @ Floridays.   I can very much relate. Once while in the brush in Oklahoma in the middle of mid stream the ground moved under my foot. As I looked down I saw the diamond pattern...and it was MOVING under my foot! Needless to say, in the act of levitating (the act of defying gravity with mind control, a skill I never knew I had until that day) backwards my hand forgot to keep up with the aim control. It wasn’t until after that sucker was dead that I realized I needed to put everything up and close the barn door and the side of the truck was dry by the time I made it back to post.

Yes! There are alligators aplenty all over the Alabama Gulf Coast, a fact not everyone knows. There have actually been some new local laws prohibiting feeding them, as some folks just don't respect that they are wild animals. Stay back, snap a photo, but definitely don't feed them! And, to the folks fishing from shore, be aware of your surroundings!

Last year there was a guy with air boats that gave rides through the swamp and viewed the gators.

The upper Mobile Bay and delta are lousy with gators.  What you see during daylight hours amount to about 1/3 of what a given area holds.  For the last 3 or 4 years AL has had a drawing based alligator season for Mobile Delta and Lake Eufala.  It's going on right now, last weekend  and this weekend.  I saw that some group got on about 12.5 feet locally last week.

I saw a HUGE one this morning on my way to work just below the I-10 Bayway.  It was easily over 10ft long.

I work in Mobile, but live in Baldwin Co, so I cross that bridge twice a day.  I see them just about every day.  There are tons of them in the Mobile Delta and around the I-10 Bayway...always has been.  I've gotten so use to seeing them, I forget to look most times.

I see them almost everytime when I cross the bridge.  I look in between the east and westbound bridges and it's usually fairly calm down there.  I got a gator tag this year and wish I could try there because there are pretty big ones but I''ll try east bay, there's alot in there also.

I make things go BOOM!!!!

When I lived in Mobile, a few years back, the Mobile causeway was my Sunday morning jog, and it was a regime to see how many gators I could see on the road or shoulder between the battleship and Spanish Fort and back. The record was 14; its amazing how fast those things can run when they get up on all fours.
