While I loved my BB gun and my bike, my fav has to be Hot Wheels.

My friend that lived a couple houses down from me had a patch of clay dirt on the side of his yard. We would use garden tools and build Hot Wheel City. We would use a garden hoe and carve out roads and build little dirt houses and dig holes and fill them with water for lakes. The area was probably 15'x10'. We would spend a couple of days building Hot Wheel City and then it would rain so we would smooth it over and start again. We both had 2 big buckets of cars. Man that was fun.

My skateboard, I was around for the first ones and grew up as they did.

My first surfboard , Morey Dole big orange sigle fin , my brother gave it to me, used to hang on to him and his buddies leases and they would pull me out to the line-up because I was to young and small to paddle through or duck dive.

One of my earliest favorites was something called the "Strange Change Machine".  Anybody remember those?  There were these plastic like squares that, when you put them in the strange change machine (which was basically a low output oven), would magically uncurl and fold out to form little plastic dinosaurs that you placed on the accompanying dino-rama of a prehistoric jungle.  Then, when you were done, you would put the little critters into an appratus that had a screw and handle (like a vise or one of those pecan shellers) and they would be forcibly turned back into squares.  Let's see...heat + pressure + 8 year old...I can't imagine WHY these were later banned by the government!!!!

Other favorites were the original G.I. Joe, Hot Wheels (with those orange tracks), and my mini bike from Montgomery Wards.

Man there were so many; Legos, micro machines, Ninja turtles, transformers and etc.

Its unfair to ask me to choose!

There you go.....mine were ninja turtles and transformers when it was raining.  If it wasn't raining I was in the woods playing capture the flag, building forts, playing basketball, football, or taking my bike off of some sweet jumps

SST racers, with the zip tie gear that you had to feed in then pull.

Hot wheels track racing with loopdy-loops

The Evil Kenival with the wind-up launcher.

Stretch armstrong

Giant styrafoam glider

David karadin of Kung Fu inflatble punching bag

I remember SST's.  One time I stuck one in my sisters hair after pulling the zip cord.  She had hair down to her waist. Damn thing grabbed hold and seized right up to her head while I was pulling on it to get it back.   That's one whooping that I'll never forget.

Bringing back some good memories here.

I really liked my BB gun, Tonka's and Matchbox cars, but I have to say my favorite toy as a kid,  was my totally chrome Sears 3 spd. bike with flames on the banana seat.  My old man totally suprised me with it on my 8th birthday and blew me away.

As an early tween of 12 he pulled another one off when he bought me a brand new Honda SL 70.

He never was much of one for birthdays, presents, gifts and such but when he did it, he did it right!!!

The BOX.  I've had many great toys over the years but I do think I had as much fun playing fort with a refrigerator box when I was very young as I've ever had with my clothes on

My brother did the same thing only it was with one of these little Mr Magoo Cars with suction cup feet. You would pull the string and they would climb the refridgerator or the door jamb. It wound up a big roll of hair that my mother had to cut out. My parents were out and my grandmother was babysitting so my sister walked around squeelling for an hour or so with this bug on her head till my parents got home....it's pretty funny 45 years later.

Wade, that is cool..  You have shared a lot of yesteryear pictures...Did you have a bunch of them digitized, or just scan out of a box as you go?  Those are always cool to see.

I got a Red Rider for my 6th birthday, and the robins, wrens, and anything else I could aggrivate to death with it, got chased.  I won't ever forget sneaking up on a little tweat bird and taking him out for the first time, I was almost suprised that I got him.

I can count on both hands how many of the toys mentioned so far were even in existence when I was a kid and have a few fingers left over!!! I can remember when they brought dirt out of the Research and Development stage and started marketing it to the public!! I loved to play in dirt!! Good clean no stones organic dirt!!!

OK, I had a little kid goat named Billie when I was a wee one and he would follow me around everywhere I went. I was born in the Appalachian mountains of PA and would think nothing of taking a hike with Billie out in the woods well before I entered the first grade. I seem to remember him always sneaking up behind me and butting me down on the ground and then running off some distance and just standing there waiting for me to get up so he could do it all over again!

My mom said that my dad got rid of Billie when he got big enough to break my wrist one day during "play" time so I had to find a new pet. It turned out to be a baby duck which I named Homer. He fell into an open cistern one day when my dad was routing some pipes from the roof to catch more rain water for whatever they were using it for and he had to rescue Homer for me. I don't remember that incident but I still have an old black and white of my dad with a wet and bedraggled Homer in an old wooden handled landing net tied to the end of a long wash prop which my mom took with a Kodak box camera directly after the "rescue"! (How many of you remember those wash props?) That was back in the day when moms hung all the wash out on the line to dry. They had a couple of nails driven in at angles so, when the wind blew the wet sheets around, the washline wouldn't pull off the prop and drag the sheets on the ground.

Toys? Yeah, I had a set of Lincoln Logs, an Erector set and every boy's dream, a Daisy BB gun! And I remember my red wagon which I would fill with water for Homer to take a bath in.

Yeah, those were the fun days and I wouldn't trade them for all the PC's and Nintendos in the world!!!

Favorite toys were model airplanes... I always wound up blowing them up with fireworks, breaking them.

PS: A Western Flyer tractor. I'm wearing my cowboy outfit with Roy Rogers pistols. They're long gone, but I have the memory, and a couple pictures somewhere.

In the day, a Benjamin was the bomb of Airguns.   I wanted one really bad.   A good buddy of mine had one and my father saw him shoot it through a 3/4" piece of Plywood, and he wouldn't let me have one after that.

What about dirt clod wars? Anyone else have those. We would love to find a big dirt pile and have dirt clod wars. You had to be careful not to throw a rock instead of dirt because that would end the game game quickly.

Sit-N-Spin. We used to 'ride' that thing and when we got off, we looked like miniature drunks!!! I remember that being the coolest feeling...trying to walk staight without falling over. Or, trying to focus on something and having oue equilibrium all screwed up!

I wonder if they make those things in 'adult' models?
