I have received numerous reports of Tarpon being seen at the I10 bridge in Escambia Bay.
My son had a tarpon blow up on a huge topwater lure Saturday evening about dusk. He estimated it to be about 4 1/2 feet (he works with a tape measure everyday) so I believe he was close.
Life isn't about waiting for the storms to pass.
It's about learning to FISH in the rain!!

| Just a question, but what kind of setup do you use for tarpon? Bait?

for big tarpon a 706 with a king rod would work... smaller a med-heavy action rod with a decent size spinning reel. id use powerpro between 30 and 50 #'s. an bait....live mullet, shrimp, crabs, pinfish, everything under the sun....if your on a big fish and light tackle its smart to know exactly how much pressure to put on you spool to turn the fish around before popping off.
Since their eyes are on the top of their head remember they are always looking up, you see them they see you so stealth helps in tarpon fishing too.
have fun there a blast

Fish Happens (8/19/2008) Just a question, but what kind of setup do you use for tarpon? Bait?Besides heavier gear, it would certainly help to have someone handy behind the wheel of the boat in case you start to spool out. The group of Tarpon I saw rolling in the tide line Saturday morning were all over 100lbs and those can certainly give you a run for the money. One of them was every bit of 6 feet in length. Gig
