In all, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission investigators cited individuals and businesses in Escambia, Santa Rosa and Okaloosa with 29 violations.

The charges resulted from a three-year investigation involving the illegal sale of cobia and pompano. Among those cited were George Schwartz, 29, of Gulf Breeze; Gary D. Wells, 50, of Navarre; and Roger Blake, 39, of Pensacola.

Pensacola businesses cited include: Dharma Blue Café, Viet Ho Oriental Market, Bien Dong Oriental Market, L&T Fresh Seafood Market and Tins-Tins Oriental Market.

Dokamis Restaurant and Lounge in Fort Walton Beach also was cited, an FWC release said.

The individuals allegedly sold the fish to local businesses without the required saltwater products license and restricted species endorsement. The businesses cited did not possess the required wholesale or retail dealer licenses, an FWC release said.

"We've consistently received complaints that some recreational fishermen were catching cobia and pompano in the westernmost counties in the Panhandle and then selling the fish without being properly licensed," said Lt. Doug Berryman, an FWC investigator. "This is an abuse of our resources and offensive to law-abiding fishermen and the public."

The investigation is ongoing, Berryman said.

Well that makes sense why I went to the pier the other day and nobody was catching hardtails...

When is the state of Alabama going to finish the rebuild of our fishing pier? Will the opening be delayed beyond March 1, 2009? Still waiting to hear...
