| I am new to the forum and to saltwater fishing. I moved here a few months back and have been hooked from the beginning. I have been in the bay and the pass fishing with a buddy from work and have caught everything from sharks to white and speckled trout but have been chasing my first Red. Went to Eglin AFB flats this Friday after worked and braved the rain and thunder and it paid off. Once the rain cleared the water glassed over and there were some Redfish tailing the surface. Caught a variety of fish including a small Jack, ladyfish and a few catfish. Finally got myself into some Reds the first being 16", close but no dinner, the second just under the slot at 17.5", trust me I pinched that tail together and could not get that half inch. Finally at about 7:30 pm found another school and drifted my shrimp and popping cork into them and BAMM 20.5". Finally a Red for the grill after alot of time and effort. Sorry no pictures this time kind of tough when you are wade fishing...

| A great first post. Congrats on the red I am sure there will be many to follow. I hope you try some topwaters when you get those slick conditions. If you are stoked now just wait when a slot red crashes a topwater lure. It will also get you away from those catfish that are a major pain when you are wading.

| Yes on the camera and I had planned on taking some pictures once I got home but realized the wife took the camera on a trip to Texas with her. Next time I will find a way to post some pictures.

Congrats on the first red . Heck, I'm new to saltwater fishing and I have only got one red to my name at 21". Now that I have a little boat, I plan on hitting the northern parts of the bays come this fall time and adding a lot more reds to my resume!

| I also recently just caught my first FL keeper redfish last week (over 19") while taking some vacation time over in the Niceville / Destin area. I'm so used to easily catching limits of slot reds in Louisiana (5 limit per person).....it was a thrill to catch my first legal FL red.

Congrats on the first redfish! It only gets more addictive from here out, then you start to think you know what you're doing and the Redfish will drop you down a peg or two.
To think like a fish, you must drink like a fish!

Hey if you get a chance try that little Marina by eglin flats. alot of times thier will be reds and speck in thier, its loaded with mullet. sometimes you can walk right in thier or just fish those rocks by the entrance. I used to live on eglin and fish that area
