Any charter boat captains in the Pensacola/Orange Beach/Ft Morgan area that are good at putting you on tarpon? I'd like to take my boys out and neither one has ever caught one.

Inspiration Charters - Steve Jones  he fishes upper Perdido Bay and has been having pretty good luck with Tarpon in the 30 lb range on light tackle.  Although he has told me there are some pretty good size ones where he fishes.

Good Luck

After tarpon fishing in South FL for 10 years and moving to AL about 18 months ago, I have come to grips that the tarpon just aren't as thick this far north of the equator.  I have asked quite a few people (including fellow pff members) and taken quite a few trips to learn this the hard way as well.  I haven't seen too many guides that target tarpon but they are a few pigs out there.

I don't know if you were only looking for tarpon and school starting back is an issue, but a weekend trip a little further south might be something to look in to.   Maybe a local guide would give the same advice?  Specifically on both coasts of Florida, south of 29 degrees latitude seems to be where you can find them in very late August and into September (the further south, the better it gets).  If you pick this option, I do have quite a few names and numbers I can give you.

Good luck!

Devin

P.S.  Let us know how you do.

Jim

We regularly target tarpon with the prime time being early to mid June through July.  We are still catching them (late July) and should continue into August but the number of opportunities per day are becoming fewer.  I operate out of Destin.  Feel free to give me a call.
