New GPS unit I'm going to buy comes with sonar.  Can you have two depth finders?  Is there any advantages other than having a backup.

Sometimes one will interfere with the others signal. Sometimes they will not.

Use the one that is a combo unit as a GPS only and use the other as your FF.

I'm adding a Furuno 582 which is a overkill unit to my inshore boat and using my Garmin 498 combo as a Garmin 492 GPS only.

I got a deal on it. I have a Furuno 582 on the Mako with a 1000watt X-ducer.

if using 2 ducers I would think the engine (prop wash) would be the biggest noise problem. You know what I dont like is that basically one company makes ducers and no one will tell the the difference in the wiring. Same ducer different wires...

I don't have two but if you keep one on 50 and the other on 200 hz there will not be a problem. This was brought up on the old fourm also.

I am sure you will get interference if you run both at the same time on the same freq. HOW MUCH??? Well, that's the $64,000 question. I know in the navy we would get interference wheter it was radars to close together, sound finders, or sonar. Lot of difference in that equipment though.

The backup sure is a plus though.
