hey guys on a garmin 498 in 90ft of water and the range set on 100 ft the unit isnt marking fish..i changed the gain from auto to manual and set the gain like it should be but still no fish marking.....its marking bottom and reefs/wrecks perfectly but just not marking any fish(and fish are there because im catching them).......the unit use to mark fish just fine so i dont know what has happened........is there a function that may have gotten turned off that im not finding or what?......guess its time for a new unit and bigger xducer...

Yes the is a place for that that makes them look like cartoon fish [not arches] on your screen.

It's in the menu.

I believe there was a recall on the 498 as the fishfinder had a problem.

Work is for people who don`t know how to fish

You could be right Bigfisher. I hadn't heard of it.

These are obsolete units. IE: Only because Garmin doesn't make them anymore.

I wish they did and the 492 also. They are very hard to find as a reconditioned unit too.

They are good units as a stand alone GPS.

I would try to do a reset to default, but the unit is working. You said it displays the bottom and the wrecks, just no fish.

ok well talked with garmin and they said there wasnt a recall or problems with the actual display unit but informed me to call airmar who makes the xducers for them.....called airmar and b4 they can give me any info on recalls or what nots they need the part # off the white label on the cable or xducer.....my boat is milesss away so unless someone on here has that unit and can get me the part number it will be a while until i can get to the boat to get it myself.......thx Stephen
