This may be a dumb question, but how do you check the angle(degrees) of the deadrise.

Reason is I'm buying one of the tilted through hull transducers and don't know the deadrise of my boat.

Well the use its triangle so your going to use tan, sin, cos

So you take your width at the bottom, then the lengths of your two sides. you know the lengths of all 3 sides. so you can use the law of cosines

Check the above link for the explanation of deadrise.  What you need is the deadrise of the planing portion of your hull.  The easiest way to check deadrise is with a cheap plastic protactor or check the owners manual/boat brochure.  Unless you have a deep V (18+ degrees of deadrise), your boat probably has a modified V hull with a deadrise of 14-17 degrees (I'm assuming you don't have a flats boat).  Transducers sometimes come with shims ( or as an option) that allow you to install them perperndicular to the water column.  I'm assuming you'll be installing the transducer close to the transom and away from any turbulence.   Before you go drilling holes in your hull, make sure you have clear access from the inside of the boat.  Also, make sure the installation is secure and water tight.

Here is the easiest way to check the Deadrise angle on a boat out of the water.

First you need one of these from Harbor Freight. It's $6.00

http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=34214

Lay it against the port side bottom close to the transom of the boat and read the angle. Write that down.

Next lay it against the STB side bottom close to the transom. Read that angle and write that down.

Add them both together and divide by 2. That is your Deadrise angle. It matters not if the boat is sitting at a angle.

One angle may be more than the other if the boat is sitting on a angle on the trailer, but using my method will give you the exact, correct angle.

Are you going to by a Airmar tilted element X-ducer? I have installed plnty of them in the past.

Let me know if you need help with this.
