I went out to the Navarre bridge today and saw some very large sheepshead eating barnacles on the pilings. I was wondering what I need to do to catch them, if there is a good bait, hook size, anything of that sort would be a great help.

Shrimp worked for me. I buy my shrimp at the market or grocery store, as they stay on better. I never buy frozen anymore. Besides you get more for your money...

Use a #1-1/0 Mustad hook. These hooks are short shanked, heavy wire hooks, Will withstand the strong jaws and crushing teeth of Sheepshead. Match hook to bait...

Baits..shrimp, fiddlers, small crabs, pieces of larger crabs, clams, oysters, and you can use a bare jig or baited jig.

Heres a tip that has worked for me and was given by a salty old car man.

Drift to the pilings, take your oar and scrape it down the column. Push off, wait  and then cast your shrimp down the piling, and then get ready for those little thieves to abscond with the bait. Hope this helps.
