Ok, ok...I know, it's just a Spanish Mackerel. However, I have been fishing hard the last couple weeks and have been catching nothing but trash fish. After breaking a custom rod (that's a whole different story) while fishing for Kings on Sunday morning on P'cola Pier, I said the heck with it and drove over to NAS. I found a nice quiet piece of beach and started fishing with my "light" setup...it's all I had with me, except a surf rod. The Reds were blowing up all over the place, as I could see them flying through the air!!! I threw everything I had at them but they had the lockjaw bad...I finally connected with this Spanish on a gold spoon. He fought hard and my little Stradic 2500 was going nuts. I finally got him to shore after about 10 mins of the reel in then nearly get spooled game. After I knew Spanish were in the area I switched to a Gotcha and landed a monster...see pics below.

| Nothing at all wrong with spanish! Great fun on light tackle and great eating. Really surprised that you couldn't get the reds to eat though. Usually when they are schooled up like you described they will eat anything. Good report and pics.
