Redfish University traveled to Destin and I guided an old friend from high school, Eric Stevenson, in Hogtown Bayou on Friday morning. Original plan was to hit West Bay, which we'll do next time, but I had some 4th of July plans and needed to cut the day short. Lots of mullet in shallow water. Picked up a few redfish and a handful of trout, and missed a few heavy bites. Overall, a slow morning... all fish caught on 1/4 Johnson Gold Spoons in less than two feet of water.

Covered alot of techniques and water! A beautiful morning at Redfish University.

Definitely looked like a beautiful day to be on the water. For reds it is hard to beat a gold Johnson spoon.

A great time was had by all. Eric really showed us the techniques. We caught what was out there. The next time the bite is on, I'll know exactly what to do. Eric, you forgot to mention the big mullet Anthony snag hooked. That was a funny moment. He thought he had a huge fish on! As it was, it was a nice sized mullet, but it was the drag effect of pulling a fish hooked right under the dorsal fin that made it seem so heavy! He kept going on about the huge redfish he was bringing in! Like I said, a great time was had by all. If you get a chance to enroll in Redfish University, I would definitely recommend it.

"Kept going on"?  I don't know about all that, but I did go on about the mullet itself...

"Who put the only mullet in the boat?"

But, 'tis true, a good time was had by all.  I learned a lot!  I'd recommend Eric's Redfish Uni to anyone.  The boat ride alone is worth the price of admission!  That Hewes is AWESOME.  I have serious boat envy now.

Tight lines,

Ant

It seems Stevenson also learned that his rain jacket, once blown overboard, is not exactly waterproof and that will ruin his cell phone left in the pocket.
