I have a 1988 SportCraft 17 ft. CC with built in 15 gal. aluminum gas tank.  The tank has some kind of foreign matter in it that looks like wet brown grocery bag pieces (about the consistency of those "Handi Wipes" we used to buy years ago.  Believe that before I bought the boat a year or so ago, some kid decided to stuff something in the tank fill hole.  Anyway, I've tried to wash all that crap out (soap and water) but there seems to always be some left in the tank (probably because of the baffles in the tank) and it stops up the pickup tube.  Any ideas short of cutting the tank open, cleaning and rewelding?????

Thanks,

Don

You may be correct, but I wouldn't think a small 15gal tank would even have a baffle?

Remove the tank and have it steam cleaned on the inside. Have them use that steam cleaning soap in it. That should clean it well from the heat of the steam and the soap.

Rinse, Rinse, Rinse and the set it upside down to drain and dry out. [put it in the sun] This may mean moving it around some in order to drain and dry well.

Do you guys have any recommendations on someone who can steam clean fuel tanks in the Ft Walton/Pensacola area? I have my console out and can get to my fuel tank so I am thinking that since my boat is a 1988, now is as good of time to get the tank looked at and cleaned.
