Nissan, Toyota, Hundai, Mercedes, BMW,soon Volkswagen, All of thee manufacturers have plants in the good ole USA. They do not build all of their models here.

I'm sure there are others.

I bought my manager a Chevy Uplander. they love it.

I like the 95 Chevy Impala SS. V8, 25 mpg on the interstate, huge trunk you can put sevral bodies in it. I even know a guy that passed me at 90 mph pullin his bass boat.

Too bad the US automakers are assembling their cars across in Mexico and abroad more and more while the foreign automakers continue to build more plants in the US and provide more jobs in the US.

My Tundra was Assembled right here in the good ole USA in Texas.

And I am here to tell you that a Toyota is more made in America than Ford or Dodge. There is no such thing as made in America anymore.

HONDA ELEMENT...........Not a minivan so you can keep your "Man card" and has more room than you'll need with good MPG. At least look at one before you set your mind on something else. They come with plastic floor mats for super easy cleanup and the huge backseat srea is ideal. There are all kinds of nifty add ons for them that may suit what you need. Check them out you'll be glad you did.

With more than 2 kids the minivan is the way to go, but, the gas mileage is not going to be great. Most of the minivans get only slightly better mpg than the v6 suv's, however you do get much more useable space for the same mpg. The Honda and Toyota mini's are certainly at the top of the heap as far as choices go, but, because of that you will pay more for them.

If you have only one or two kids, then you can get by comfortably with a car with a good trunk and back seat. The rear facing car seats take up more room than the forward facing, and you only use those for about the first year. A couple of cars with lots of room are:

The Ford Taurus/Mercury Sable, they have the largest trunk on the road, get good mpg, and have the highest safety rating you can get. Used ones are cheap.
The Mazda 6, five door, sounds kinda crazy, but the Mazda 6 has quite a bit of room, with the 5door/hatchback you get a car that still looks good and has a ton of room.
The Chevy HHR, has lots of room but I can't tell you much beyond that.
Volvo V-70, one of the safest cars built, gets up to 30mpg and rides great, has plenty of storage. Also the BEST auto seats you will ever sit in.
The Altima is just a good all around value, always has been, not as much room as some of the others though.

I have worked in the car biz for 7yrs, and I have 3 kids that were all in car seats at the same time. Good luck!

Wife has a nissan pathfinder that has a third row seat. Sister and brother love thier Toyota 4runner though, wish I had the 4runner...

I even use ours to pull the boat, 18 ft. center console.

Check out the chevy HHR. I bought one a year and a half ago and I'm sold on it. 30 MPG, plenty of room, and dependable. I have over 52000 miles on mine without any problems. AND IT'S A CHEVY! I gave 15 grand for it brand new.:usaflag

Yes....Chrysler has announced a month long promotion on new vehicles and gas for 3 years @ $2.99:bowdown

Gee I wonder why they are giving gas away for 2.99. Because the product that they sell is subpar and sales are just about dead for them.

go ahead and get the minivan. Just throw the man card away. It'll be a love/hate relationship.

Seriosly though, minivan is the way to go. When its raining you can jump in through the passenger door with baby and all and close the door. Then you have plenty of room to buckle baby (babies) in and move to the front seat. You can move to the back from the front when going down the road, if you have to. Changing diapers, clothes, feeding, etc is so much easier. And beleive it or not, you'll have more room in a minivan than a SUV, unless you get a suburburn.

I would not buy a dodge/chrysler car/van/suv.. Maybe the truck but nothing else... If you could afford it I'd go with the Honda Oddysessy (SP)

IF THIS IS THE ONLYBABY FOR A WHILE I SECOND THE 4 CYL ALTIMA, CAMRY, ACCORD. IF YOU ARE THINKING OF HAVING ANOTHER BABY IN THE NEAR FUTURE I WOULD SUGGEST A USED MINIVAN (EASY TO GET CAR SEATS IN AND OUT OF)THEY GET GOOD GAS MILEAGE AND THEY DEPRECIATE VERY FAST SO YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO GET ONE WITH 10-20K MILES ON IT AND SAVE 8-10K OFF WHAT IT SOLD FOR NEW. JUST MY 2 CENTS HOPE IT HELPS

With one kid, our 2005 Altima is plenty big enough. And with two, I think it will be fine. Anymore than that and you better be looking at a minivan. It has a huge trunk. We have packed the car for a 7 day trip and not had a problem. It was stuffed full of baby stuff, but it worked just fine. Look at all the larger midsized cars with the 4 cyl engines like the Camary, Altima, etc... We get about 28-30 mpg with our 4cyl Altima.

Jeep Grand Cherokee gets about 20 avg. and I think they're giving you gas at $2.99 a gallon for the first 12,000 of the first three years you own it.

Good room in them and they ride well.

I've had two, 293,000 on the first one and someone else is still driving it and I'm at 180,??? on this one and love it.

Same vehicle my Dad has and they love it. They travel quite a bit and take the grandkids. My Dad has to have a refrigerator for his medicine and there is PLENTY of room.

Need Your Car Opinion

There's one thing you never realize until after you have a baby, and that's just how small your car is. Anyone who has kids knows how much stuff they come with and God forbid you try and travel with one! We currently have a small car and a pickup truck, neither of which is ideal for a family vehicle. We would love to get something bigger but with gas prices and the economy, things are tight. I know a lot of dealerships are putting out great incentives to try and get cars sold so there may be some good deals out there. Is there a SUV out there that's not so bad on gas? Is there a car out there that's got the room of an SUV? Any suggestions?
