I guess you never know though.

Eric, man, you look kind of sad in your pic. Did you get a little lonely out there..?.. :)

RE: Redfish Homework in the sound.

Eric, What kind of tide/time of day were you fishing? I have been experiencing similar results recently in the sound. Find a fish here or find a fish there and I have been moving up between the docks closer to shore as well!

I have a theory that with the gas prices the way they are, guys are staying closer to the ramps or home, boats are sometimes bunching up. The added pressure, noise, and commotion in the water is keeping the fish on the move. Maybe the fish have moved off the end of the docks because they're being peppered with gulps while hanging out there!

I've also noticed most don't have patience...they come into an area, bust around for a few minutes and then off they go to disturb the water somewhere else. They don't let things settle down.

I'm going to head out tomorrrow from of Little Sabine probably around 6am. (depending on weather)

Speaking of gas, I could use a little help too, so Eric, Joe or Rat, if you're interested, PM me. I can handle up to 2 of you; anymore than 3 on the boat, casting is just too tough.

Maybe we can get some good pics :takephoto

RE: Redfish Homework in the sound.
ericholstman (6/12/2008)
You didn't miss much, Joe. I did alot of head scratching and talking to myself.:)
For the dock questions. 90% of the fish that I see are between the docks in shallow water. The water level and movement will dictate the distance off the banks. I gotta tell ya, they are very tough this week. I think I went 2 for 30 today.
I'd a caught the other 28, no doubt.

RE: Redfish Homework in the sound.

You didn't miss much, Joe. I try to throw as far back as I can, but I never move in to deep between them. I could be passing up some great fish as well.

RE: Redfish Homework in the sound.

Damn it! So, when you are working a set of docks, do you go up in between them like that all the time or just if it looks good? I find I usually just work the furthest out section of the docks...looks like I've possibly been missing some fish.

Redfish Homework in the sound.

Finally got a day off from my new guiding adventures and decided to fish by myself and go do a little homework. My goal was to find some good concentrations of redfish for some upcoming Redfish University students. It was a very difficult day. Not many fish and very spread out with the high water. The two fish that I did catch were sitting on shallow sandy areas between docks(right on the bank) and one on the south side of the sound. Both fish were sightfished which was nice. "Viewed" a handful of redfish on the grass in 1-2' water between the docks, but they were not interested in anything I threw. That's frustrating.
Got 2 fish, 6# and 7#. Caught on 5" Gulp Jerkshads in camo. Fished hard.
