| I have a 2000 150HP 2 stroke, carborated Yamaha, with oil tank. It has smoked a lot at startup for some time. Last Friday however, it started smoking a lot at low speed or idle. One time I even thought it was on fire. At high RPM it went away. Would return at low RPM, but not all the time. When I was flushing it at the ramp it was fine. Still runs like a champ at high RPM. I assume it is some kind of excessive oil problem. Any ideas? Thanks Cptskinny

How did you flush it at the ramp?
 20' ProLine Cuddy cabin. 16' Cape Horn Center console.

It could be an oiling issue, however, that model hasn't had any oiling issues. What brand/kind of oil are you using. Some oils cause excess smoke. Also, if the unit has sat for a while, you may have poor fuel issues. Bad fuel can cause this to happen. I have also seen where someone accidentally put a little diesel in the tank and it caused issues. Call me if you want to discuss it further.

| I have been using Citgo oil. I flushed it with the buit in flush attachment. Not a muff on the bottom.

Oil pump rod fell off, that would make it default to full oil. Just a thought.

First, and I know this will start a big debate, stop using the Citgo oil and switch to Yamaha or Quicksilver. Next, check the sync and link on the carbs and the oil pump rod to the carbs.

Yep, the end on the oil link rod may have broken or the rod fell off. I agree on stopping the Citgo oil.

| Hats off to double D and Bowed Up. The plastic end of the rod on the oil pump was broken. I think if I can find the part, I can even do it myself. Was made out of cheap plastic. Oil tank was about empty, tank on engine was half full. I would have been in real trouble in a little while. Thanks for the help. Cptskinny
