we have been working on the boat now for the past 3 weekends and have been itching to take her out for some flounder. well we went this morning the tides were decent but we forgot about all the rain from gustav so Escambia was still pretty high, the water was still dirty, and it had no salt in it

but we fished for a few hours using jigs and caught a bunch of little specks and whites and a 22" red for dinner.

the catch of the day though was this big chain pickerel aka jackfish. ive only caught a few of these and this one is one of the bigger ones. she was just over 25" and weighed about 5lbs

Pretty cool fish except if he got your finger, it would get your attention quick. I was out in the Escambia River Friday also and my friend and I caught 2 slot reds.

That's a very nice "jack". They are some very fine eating if you clean him correctly. 1st- Cut his head off and gut him. Then you lay him on a cutting board and cut him all the way through into three or four pieces. Next you "gash" him with cuts about 1/8th" apart, all the way down the pieces. Gash them on both sides but be careful not to cut through the backbone. You then salt and pepper them, skake them in corn meal and drown them in grease.

You know, my dad and I saw what we thought was a gar while we were flyinf along in the boat on the sound side by Tiger point in Navarre, now that I look at this I guess this is what we saw, but this thing was at least 3 feet.
