Employment RECRUITMENT ANNOUNCEMENTS __________________________________________________ RECRUITMENT ANNOUNCEMENT Date: August 28, 2008 Title: Executive Director Location: Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council 2203 North Lois Avenue, Suite 1100 Tampa, Florida 33607 Duties: This is a non-federal position with benefits. The incumbent serves as chief executive officer and carries out the business, policies, actions, and fishery management activities of the Council by providing direction to and supervision of the staff. He/she will oversee and manage the distribution of scientific and other information to the Council from National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS), the states, academic institutions, the Council’s Advisory Panels (APs), Scientific and Statistical Committees (SSCs), Stock Assessment Panels (SAPs), Socioeconomic Panel (SEP), and other relevant sources. In carrying out this function he/she will oversee the scheduling of meetings of various groups and panels by staff to make sure the recommendations from those groups are provided to the Council in a timely manner consistent with scheduling the completion of management activities.The Executive Director is also responsible for ensuring the proper accounting and control of the fiscal resources allocated to the Council at the direction of the Council, and for complying with all the provisions of the Council’s cooperative agreement, including the effective control over and accountability for all funds, property and other assets. He/she also serves as the Council’s primary contact with the public and is responsible to see that news releases are prepared in the name of the Council and/or Council Chair on the programs and achievements of the Council. The Executive Director reports directly to the Council or through the Chair and is expected to carry out the functions without direct supervision. Salary Range: Equivalent GS-15 $107,962 to $140,355 per year (starting salary negotiable based on applicant’s qualifications) Evaluation Factors: Incumbent must have at least a Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university and at least seven years of pertinent experience or preferably a Masters or higher degree from an accredited college or university and at least five years of pertinent experience. At least five years experience must be in an administrative/ supervisory position. Professional experience is desirable in a directly-related fisheries field and in the preparation of technical publications. Preference will also be given to applicants for level of experience; education; budgetary expertise; demonstrated experience in, and knowledge of, fishery science and management; technical writing; demonstrated knowledge of Gulf fisheries; and level of administrative responsibilities. Good written and oral communication skills are very important, and familiarity with the Magnuson-Stevens Act is desirable. | I'd say apply. If you fall short in the years department, you may balance out in other areas. At that level, the black and white requirements tend to gray somewhat. I'm just saying dont cut yourself short. Go for it!

Hell yea do it anyway. I am a recruiter in the aviation field and alot of times the hard and fast requirements are not exactly that but more of a best case scenario. Plus the process of getting hired with any kind of government organization takes forever and a day so you might have all the quals you need by the time the appointment is made.

Do it! We could use a sane person in charge of something for once. Sh#t Joe I was going to apply until you said that! It's cool that they think it is important enough to throw that kind of $$$$ (over 100K/yr) at it. I can't help but think though....how many artificial reefs would that money pay for each year?
