We have had this planned for a month, but it may be too late for Tropical Storm Faye. Weather Underground has six computer models, four of them entering the Gulf, one of them "Nogaps' centered on Mobile Bay. However things could change drastically in the next few days. If we miss this one, be ready for the next storm.

We will be presenting a three part presentation, John Naybors, operator of three marinas in Bayou Chico will discuss how to prepare your boat left in a marina. The general manager of Pensacola Shipyard, Keith Bellflower will discuss what the shipyard can do for you and preparing your boat if it's on the hard. I, Tom Vandiver, AKA "Old Flathead" will talk about anchoring for the storm, where some people go for safe refuge, like Demopolis or up any river and where not to go anchor, like Bayou Chico.

This will be a roundtable discussion, so that those of you with experience can share "howudidit". So, come on down to the West Marine store at 3500 Barrancas, 7PM Tuesday August 26.

WX Underground gives us a 50-50 chance of missing Faye. The US Navy's NOGAPS computer model has it turning west and running down our coast line, but only as a tropical storm.

Looks like the Fickle Fay is not going to be so bad, but what about the next one.
Is your boat ready?
Of course trailerable boats are ready, just head up to Birmingham. Make sure your wheel bearings are in good shape.

For those of us who keep our boats in the water, at your own dock or in a marina, are you ready for the next IVAN?
If you have lived here for awhile, you know what to expect.

Come on over to West Marine, 3500 Barrancas Tuesday evening at 7PM and let's talk about it.

This morning I presented a shorter version of this program to a bunch of boaters over at Orange Beach, The Live Bait at the Wharf, courtesy of our West Marine store in Orange Beach. We had about 25 folks who seemed to enjoy our presentation.

See y'all there. If you can't make it Tuesday, check out www.boatus.com/hurricanes .
I spent all day yesterday getting my four boats that I leave in the water prepped. If it was going to be a full on hurricane, I would have pulled the Chico Limo and Bravura, the two 25 footers out. The easiest to prep was my 20' work boat, took the 3" pump out, lowered the "A" frame, pulled it up on the beach and half filled it with water.
