| I will be down the week of September the 8th for a fishing trip and was wondering what should be biting the best about a month from now. I have a 21' bay boat and probably won't want to venture too far from the pass. What's the best way to catch the large reds in the pass? Thanks!

Get some 3" Pinfish and use as light an egg weight as possible to get it to the bottom of the pass. If the current is running strong sometimes you have to step it up a bit. I usually use 3oz - 4oz,.. 4ft of 50lb fluorocarbon leader and a #4 Kale Hook works great or you could use a med - small circle hook. Also have a rod rigged with a 2oz buck tail jig, sometimes they will hammer it. As the water cools later into Oct and November the reds will start to move in off the beaches and that's when the fun really begins.. it's one of my favorite times to fish. Good luck hope this helps.. Tight lines...

| Thanks Capt. John, Looks like I will have to plan a trip in Oct/Nov as well. I thought I remembered the reds congregating there later in the year. Will the kings still be in the pass in good numbers next month as well? thanks again! bfish

The King bite has been hit and miss the past few weeks nearshore, but it should pick up. Usually around Sept and October the kings move into the bays feeding on the large schools of Menhaden. This is when the bite will pick up in the pass.
