Get some 3" Pinfish and use as light an egg weight as possible to get it to the bottom of the pass. If the current is running strong sometimes you have to step it up a bit. I usually use 3oz - 4oz,.. 4ft of 50lb fluorocarbon leader and a #4 Kale Hook works great or you could use a med - small circle hook.

Also have a rod rigged with a 2oz buck tail jig, sometimes they will hammer it. As the water cools later into Oct and November the reds will start to move in off the beaches and that's when the fun really begins.. it's one of my favorite times to fish.
