Not much to report at all.  We left OB around 4am Saturday morning.  We got to the Beer Can an hour after daylight.    We show up and the first thing we saw was a monster yft (easily over 100lbs) sky in the air. Then we see fish tearing up the surface. All blackfin.  We get excited to catch some fish, but that turned out to be the only good thing of the day.  We trolled naked ballyhoo with nothing.  I threw the popper for a while and caught 1 blackfin about 2 lbs.  I swear the popper was bigger than him.  Heading back north, not even an aj would take a hardtail and a couple of rigs.  Came across a real nice grassline.  Nothing. Nada. Finished up ata  bottom spot with 1 scamp and tons of snapper that had to be thrown back to live another month.  All in all we sucked it up bad.

Note:  Water was blue at the beercan and we saw quite a bit of flying fish.  If anyone would like to take someone (me) offshore to show me the ropes on yft fishing, I will be happy to do whatever.  Thanks

Let me know when your next trip is planned.  I may be able to help a bit.  Even have a crew if you need one.

That being said....sometimes the fish just don't eat despite chumming, chunking,  casting, trolling etc.

At least you were out there....more than I can say for myself!

Oh yeah, next time bridle that little blackfin up..makes great bait!

thanks for the info.  the only problem is is that i dont even know how to bridle a fish or rig a ballyhoo.  i am the one that buys the prerigged gear.  but i am trying to learn as much as i can.  i'll get there one day.

Check your pm's.

Also, pre-rigged stuff sucks!  Never rely on anyone but yourself (or a trusted crew member)when it comes to blue water fishing.

I'v had alot worse days on the water than that.  You made it there and back.  My thought is that is the most important thing there is and then I always try to learn from my fishing or spearfishing trips good and bad.  Next time chum chum chum and try to be at the rigs about one hour before sun rise so you can be ready for the first light bite.
