Default Popped my cherry in Perdido

Been reading this forum for a while and decided on this trip to give kayaking a shot. So i rented a cheapie and decided to troll just beyond the sandbar. Managed an early ish start at around 6-30am, launched right in front of the condo we are at- the Seafarer. For the 1st hour and a half it was flipper city out there, so i spent that time getting used to the kayak and realizing how unfit i have become. Once flipper migration slowed i finally started seeing some fish, saw a decent tarpon rolling by, but couldnt interest him in what i had to offer. When i decided to head back home i got a little rain and a few fish. Caught 2 lady fish and a small spanish. Thats all i needed to be officially hooked. I will be buying my own yak for sure and renewing the gym membership so my fat ass can handle the next trip. Managed to get in and out without bailing and balancing was ok too, even took a dive to see if i could haul the extra 20 i am carrying bag on board and did it no problem

I plan on fishing around ono tomorrow for some specs and would love to try get some snapper out in the gulf before I leave sunday- anyone heading out that doesnt mind a noob tagging along, please let me know I will do as told and love to be educated by some of you guys. I tried to book a kayak charter but the guys are too busy or didnt care to get back to me. Beers on me at the end of the day

Nice to hear reports from a newbee. I've been thinking about selling my aluminum vhull and getting a yak for crappie and bass fishing up here, and have something light to fish with when I come down to the gulf. I'm guessing fishing our little watershed lakes up here would be a lot easier than beach fishing.

What was the hardest thing on you?

JonhF- hardest thing was keeping a good rythym being out of shape, other than that it was awesome, I am definitely buying my own yak before the next trip down. I did find this morning fishing for specs around ono that the breeze pushed you around alot- i plan on taking some kind of anchoring system so i dont have to reposition every few minutes.
