Tar mat in gulf shores

Read in the paper today that a spokesman for the city of gulf shores says they discoverd a 1500' long and as much as 18" thick tar mat off the beach last month. Anybody heard anything about this? How far off the beach? How do they know its there?

I heard that it was in the area of Little Lagoon, maybe to the west of it. Last I heard, they were cleaning it up. But, that was a couple of weeks ago.

I heard about it but never saw it and also heard it was west of the pass at little lagoon. There's still a ton of it out there on the bottom. Anytime we have rough seas or a storm, some of it is going to come ashore.
