Default Satellite communication

I currently have a SPOT locator, however it is the first generation model and I feel I need to update. I have been looking at the DELORME
inReach SE Satellite Communicator, since it has the ability to receive messages. My wife really likes this feature, since we have a 18 month daughter. I don't need anything too fansy, since I only fish weekends and the Nipple is about as far as I go.

Has anyone had any experience with this product or can recommend something that receives messages other than going with a sat phone.

I used one on a trip to Alaska last month. Paired it with our cell phones and we could send texts of up to 180 characters. My wife had a weblink via the inreach and she could track exactly where we were, how far we had traveled etc. We had no connectivity or equipment issues in less than ideal weather and topography. I am sure the unit could do a heck of a lot more, but I was to busy to play with all the extra gadgetry.

Buddy of mine uses one on his sailboat, he spends the winters in Caribbean and has had no issues staying in touch. He has not used it for an emergency call so hard to speak to that.

I have an inReach SE Satellite Communicator and its a welcome addition to our ditch bag! I usually send a message to someone each trip. It gives them an idea of the area I'm fishing. The message has a link to a map service that pin points locations exactly where you are when message is sent. Awesome device and the battery last for weeks at a time. $12 a month for basic service fees.

I have the Delorme and highly recommend it. It uses the Iridium network and is very fast. Wife likes the piece of mind of being able to ping/track my location or send/receive txt messages.

I also have an inreach and have had one for about 3 years. It's awesome, you can send and receive texts and have an emergency feature if needed as well. Gives my wife peace of mind when I am offshore all day, and let's her let me know how bad the kids are being while I'm offshore

Default New to Navvare

Afternoon all, new to Navarre Beach and will start fishing outside of Pensacola so I figured that this would be a good local knowledge source.
