You walk up and stick something sharp in somebody's back and steal $20 bucks and get years in jail. You fill out some documents, lie, cheat, lie again and steal thousands and get a slap on the wrist (probation). This double standard suxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.... They should ALL do jail time with full restitution and additional penalties required......... IMHO

Default Pressure from government made it easy to defraud

The claims guy that I talked to had a standing order from BP/claims company to stroke a check for $1,000 minimum to get rid of problem people. Crazy stuff like people with no documents then later showing up with a W2. The W2 would be for unemployment for the previous year, yet they paid. They had friends of the claimant come in and try to "dime" them out, but they had to pay - policy. If they resisted paying, you would see the headlines "BP unfair to local citizens".

I think that had an American Company had this happen to them, we would still be looking for reimbursement. BP, right or wrong, stood up and addressed the problem. I know that not all settlements have been easy, especially for the big operators and those who worked under the radar with cash exchanges.

I hope they go after everyone who submitted a false claim. Heck, I wasn't going to submit, but after hearing about the food industry workers getting 12K for missed tips..., I filed my claim. I had every bit of proof with history for lost rentals... I was happy with the outcome.

Cheers,

I heard of too many people lying and cheating to get a few bucks they should all have to pay back every cent, I don't know about jail time I am not sure we have that kinda room for all of them but they should definitely be punished, the oil spill was not meant to be another Obama stimulus check for everyone to buy new rims and watches with..

I said from the get go this was coming, it may take a year, it may take 5 years but if you committed fraud you will get what you have coming. As I said when this all started, they were handing out checks just to get the media off their back and then they figured on doing the "REAL" investigating on down the line, YOU CAN RUN BUT YOU CAN'T HIDE !!!!!

Had a PI stop by my business and ask to speak to me about a former employee about their claim, seems she told them i laid her off because of the spill and forged my my signature on a letter stating that fact but of course she had been fired three weeks before the spill even happened!!

They are in hot pursuit of her now and they started the investigation because she stated on facebook that BP bought her new boobs.

Big brother is watching although this time its good, sort of.
