I am fairly new to the area but not to the political spending of undeserved monies. With the additions of our wonderful military units such as 7th Forces, AFSOC, the new F35 crews and those guys love for the same sport, an 'unnatural" pass in Navarre would be coveyed by many, not including the additional training that could be done on the gulf side as is done with the SEAL Teams and other Special Ops groups that are done in areas with trickier conditions than the sound such as that of amphib landings, underwater approach and such. They are the guys who protect our piece of mind while fishing 80+ miles offshore, i am sure with split costs the local counties and government could come up with a plan to open the pass and maintain its integrity short of full on disasters of hurricanes which would cause additional work, no one cares about the tens of millions spent on the blue angels every year to keep them here. Just 2 cents from someone who doesnt count

bring this up to your county commission, see what they have to say about it. I seem to remember the tax base decided not to support such a thing. to costly, I seem to remember, but it died a bloody death from what I remember several years ago.
not sure what your trying to say about the SEALS AFSOC F35 those guys are the ones that provide piece of mind while offshore 80 miles? You lost me here, I am a little slow sometimes, but....

The most recent push for the Navarre Pass was a resolution passed by SRC Commissioner Jim Melvin to support a pass if the AF wanted it. Per reports in the newspapers, it was a cart before the horse. When Commissioner Melvin asked the AF if they would consider opening the pass, one officer said that he would bring it up to the group that discusses their strategic land use needs in the area if there was community support for it.

Having watched this process I believe it will be next to impossible to reopen the pass unless the AF/DoD wants one there. If the AF/DoD wants it, it will likely happen with light speed and great cooperation by SRC BOCC.
