I am thinking on what to say here..... over 4 million to escambia county for "human Use" public boat ramp facilities. How do I get involved in the paycheck end of that contract? I can see it now, porta potties sitting around. Oh there is 500K set in there for dune restoration. Mississippi went balls to the wall for reef projects. I saw that in the picture..... I don't really know what to make of this. someone help me out.

It's ridiculous that the best use of bp habitat repair money that florida can find is to fix or build 4 boat ramps, oh and work on some sand dunes. To me that says one of two things, the first is either there wasn't any damage so they can't find anything else to spend it on. Or else the county is holding bp by the throat to get some boat ramps. Why not at least spend it on fishing habitat like mississippi will.

I would want to spend some money on getting the Navarre Pass put back in that could get a whole fishing fleet to Navarre and hotels and what ever comes with it.

If you guys look around there was a pass going to the gulf from Navarre beach on the East side of the bridge, this pass was closed in by sand around the '60 I think but if we could spend some BP money on getting that back up that would create lots of JOBS and give us more tourist $$$ than even before.

Just my 2 cents

Best
Jacob

Florida politics as usual. It should go to building reefs, not ramps.

Not a Natural Pass, it will fill back in with sand in no time. That would suck up the whole 4 Million and more in no time flat. it filled in bacause nature decided a pass should not be there..... don't mess with mother nature.

I agree Reefs should be a large part- Dune restoration second, boat ramps a distance third. But what do I know

Governmental admin costs will surely consume most of the dollars and what remains will be doled out to the gov't agencies' "new friends." The kind of friends that appear when you win the lottery and use influences that benefit them. What benefits the Gulf will be liittle.

If that seems too cynical, then what benefit is the $5M in Escambia Cty to the Gulf? Boat ramps and sand dunes? Not even a pinfish is helped by that.

As I understand the latest on reefs being funded by the initial $1B, the trustees (state of FL) are putting together several reef projects from the 5 Florida counties into one overall reefing project. One for Escambia would fill up the east and west nearshore sites and one in Santa Rosa would create a near shore site and fill it up with reefs. I estimate those two projects will total approximately $5M unless it includes sinking a ship (which would cost a lot more to prep). I'm anxious to see these projects funded. That still leaves a lot.

No amount of money can take the tar off the bottom of the gulf and reverse whatever environmental damages occured because of the spill. A trillion bucks won't take back what happened and only effects the people getting the money, not the environment.
